Some feel the measure of a person is gauged by what they leave behind them.
It has been interesting observing the many different ways the death of Steve Jobs has affected so many people. It’s strange too that two, perhaps less than politically correct, stand out more than all the other other public accolades Mr. Jobs has received.
One person wrote, “One man dies and millions cry, millions die and few men cry. A shocking response but if you think about it, a true sentiment. It takes nothing away from Steve Jobs but says a lot about society.
Another wrote, “Steve Jobs wasn’t a great man, he
wasn’t even close. He just sold cool stuff.” IMHO, this response is well off
the mark. While it’s obvious Steve Jobs was a master at presenting his products
to the world, to miss the amazing things he did throughout his career
shows some ignorance of the facts.
It reminds me of something my grandfather told me. "Youth
rarely appreciates the accomplishments of those that came before them. The platform they stand on is often the shoulders of those they criticize".
There is a giant difference between what Steve Jobs did and what other uber-achievers did in computer technology since the mid-1960s. With out well to do parents, connections or angels funding his work Steve Jobs and his partner completely changed the world. No longer was the power of computing consigned to large air conditioned, white room environments. If ever there was a “power to the people” moment it was the development of an affordable personal computer.
How Steve Jobs did what he did and why he did it is best
explained by his own words and the sounds that come from his own technological
gifts to the rest of mankind. The video presented in this article is not my
production. I appreciate the charge to pass it on for as many others as
possible to see. My feelings about Steve Jobs are that he was more than a great
man. He was, is and will remain to be an example that more young people in our
country need to follow. Please like and pass it on for Steve.
